Michael and Kim are partners with a shared passion for art, culinary pursuits, canine companionship, travel, and cultivating new friendships.
Michael Holmes
Instructor and co-owner

Michael has been a school teacher and a motorcycle safety instructor, before falling in love with gems. Each Oak and Stone class is tailored to a student's unique learning style, emphasizing that there isn't just one "right" way to approach gem cutting challenges.
Michael is also an avid organizer within the gemcutting community, a graphic designer for several gem professionals and a US Faceters Guild board member.
Kim Nguyen
Co-owner and teaching assistant
she/her
Kim brings together her visual arts training and love for complex problem-solving in her career as a product designer. Inspired by the close-knit and welcoming faceting community, she supports Oak & Stone operations to foster its growth, provide resources for skill development, and encourage the preservation of gemcutting. To further assist Oak & Stone students in achieving their goals, Kim is presently enrolled in the GIA Jewelry Essentials program. A versatile artist, her interests range from sewing and screen printing to illustration and the lapidary arts.
